On your way to Fernie, you’ll notice the landscape begin to tower above you. You are now in the heart of the Canadian Rockies.

Fernie is situated in the magnificent Elk Valley. The mountains that surround the valley are very inviting and deep with snow! Here, in this breathtaking scenery, you’ll spend the next 7 nights nestled at the base of The Lizard Range ... and the lifts could be just outside your ‘back door’!

Monday

No doubt all of your equipment and layers of clothing were laid out and ready for this morning. After you’ve had the opportunity to fuel-up with a hearty western breakfast, it’s time to hit the slopes and enjoy nature’s powdery offerings!

No need to study maps this morning! Join your hosts Terri and Syl for a tour on the slopes of Fernie Alpine Resort. They know all the greatest spots and are delighted to share some local knowledge for your skiing enjoyment.

The view ‘up top’ will stir your imagination. Ski or ride open bowls, trees and steeps. There’s terrain for every level!

Back at your hotel, after an exhilarating day of sliding down the mountain you may want to soak the rest of your cares away in the hot tub. Refreshed and relaxed, you are ready to enjoy a sumptuous meal at one of a variety of restaurants nearby. The night is young …

Tuesday

Morning dawns, and it’s time to explore more of this snow-filled playground! If you would like a few pointers to improve your technique, take a private lesson with a fully qualified instructor. However, you must save some energy for later today! You won’t want to miss your chance to try out some snowshoes this afternoon.

See the mountain from a different perspective. A guided snowshoe walk through the forest will give you the opportunity to see and learn more about the surrounding natural environment.

A warm treat awaits you back at the hotel.

Wednesday

You have begun to explore this winter wonderland but there is just so much to ski and ride. Fernie Alpine Resort offers you 9 different lifts that service 5 distinct bowls. There are over 2500 acres with 107 marked trails. The longest run is 5 KM - 3 Mi. Would your legs measure up or will you be a "Falling Star"? Rest assured, with your friendly hosts the runs you ski will always be right for you.

The mountains are a place of contrasts. Today starts on the slopes and continues in the drier climes of the Rocky Mountain Trench. From sliding to sleighing you will glide by fields and through forest trails and hear cowboy poems and tales that tell stories of days past.

With rosy cheeks and chilly toes, come inside and warm up by the fire. Your hosts invite you to join them in some down-home fare. Time to 'chow down'!

The end of this adventure filled day will bring you back to the town of Fernie.

Thursday

You’re still keen, because there’s so much to ski and ride! Deep layers of shimmering crystals, blanket every slope. Fernie is known for its deep natural snow pack. No snow making required here!

Another popular adventure sport that relies on winter’s gifts is dog-sledding. Whether you try to master the skills of a musher or prefer to ride as a passenger, the energy of your dog team is contagious. You might have trouble washing the grin off your face after a few hours of exhilarating action on the sled.

Then, warm-up with some local hospitality … another excellent day in the Rocky Mountains.

Friday

Time to visit your favorite runs, or maybe you’d like to go shopping. Whatever your whim, the day is yours to decide. The choices are numerous. Whatever you choose, have a great day!

Later this afternoon, meet with a guide from the local historical society for a delightful and informative heritage walk in downtown Fernie. This evening you could treat yourself to a relaxing massage, a gourmet meal… or pick a pub and party!

Saturday

One more glorious day to savour your visit to Fernie, British Columbia.
A dinner of epicurean delights at Lizard Creek Lodge will bring your Rocky Mountain journey to a close.

Sunday

Back on the road, you are homeward bound today. Memories of epic runs, new friends and new experiences dance across your mind. As you daydream and reminisce, the towering peaks slowly diminish in the distance. Soon, the city sprawl meets you and follows you to the airport. Bon Voyage.
